Make a Splash!Explore the nature of water, where it comes from, where it goes and what it does. Enter the gallery under a giant umbrella that protects you from an overhead rainstorm. Pools and cascades, a streambed, vortex and fog machine actively engage in water play and experimentation. Learn about weather and explore the dynamics of the water cycle. |
Umbrella: Watch for a rainstorm. Observe the way the water flows down the umbrella. Why doesn’t it drip off the sides? Where does it go?
Streambed: Try racing two boats down the streambed. Which path does each boat take? Which boat reaches the end of the streambed first?
Vortex: Which direction do the balls spin? What makes them spin?
Fog Basin: Touch the fog and try to catch some in your hands. What does it feel like? What time of day might you see fog outside and under what weather conditions?
Weather Zone: Find a state on the map and plot the weather in that location using information from today’s newspaper. Be a meteorologist and give a weather report.
Pools and Cascades: Change the way the water flows by building a dam or creating a river. Try sailing a boat through a new path.
Shake, Rattle and Roar: What causes thunder? How are thunder and lightening related? Make some noise! What do you hear?
